Why I built Gutsphere
I wanted to be a customer,
not a founder.
By Bimal Maharjan, founder of Gutsphere
I kept looking for
what I had missed.
Digestive problems have been part of my life since childhood. I grew up with diarrhea. Constipation came after I moved to the United States.
For more than a decade, I investigated my own experience and read thousands of research papers across fields. I wanted to understand what was happening and what I had missed.
Some answers sounded convincing. Some helped. Others left important questions open. Reading more widely showed me perspectives I hadn’t known to look for.
Then came another job: making something useful work in my life. How did it fit the care I already had? Could I keep doing it? What did the result actually tell me?
I had to keep making those connections. Between appointments. After another attempt. Whenever something changed.
I could see the system
I wanted to have.
My work as an engineer and entrepreneur gave me a way to think about that missing support.
What if relevant knowledge could help a person discover a question they had never known to ask? What if practical tools helped them use that understanding? What if the next plan and care conversation could begin with what they had already learned?
I wanted those parts to work together around the person living with the problem.
They should be able to use the support in an ordinary day, with the larger system doing useful work behind the immediate step.
Advances in AI opened a way to build more of that experience. Making it useful required the work of connecting knowledge, questions, planning, daily support, and review, with clear limits around clinical decisions.
That became Gutsphere.
The person living with it
is the person we build for.
We chose to start with the consumer. I want people to be able to choose this support because it is useful to them, and for us to keep earning that choice.
I’m an engineer working from lived experience. I’m not a clinician. My story explains why I built Gutsphere; the health guidance needs its own evidence and appropriate review.
Our mission is to make digestive care accessible, affordable, actionable, and personalized. Our vision is a lifelong co-pilot for digestive health. You remain the pilot.
The purpose is the life you want beyond managing symptoms. More room for your family, your work, your plans, and the things you have put aside.
One personal system. Room for a thousand dreams.
